A two-page “at a glance” handout for Precision Guessworks, FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 1646 out of Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana. The goal was a piece a reader could absorb in under a minute — something to hand a prospective sponsor at an event or attach to an outreach email — that still carries the full story of who the team is and what it does.

The design problem

A team like this has a lot to communicate: roster makeup, the wider robotics program it feeds, fundraising and growth goals, and a busy calendar of community outreach. Dropped into paragraphs, none of it gets read. The brief was to turn that material into a scannable visual hierarchy — headline numbers first, supporting detail second — so the most important facts land even on a glance.

Page one — the team at a glance

The first page leads with the team’s wordmark and a one-line introduction, then breaks the essentials into self-contained visual modules:

  • A donut chart placing the FRC team inside the larger Lafayette robotics pipeline (FTC, FLL Challenge, and FLL Explore teams).
  • A “tiny and mighty” roster callout — 11 students, with a pictograph breaking down the makeup of the team.
  • A grade-level bar chart and a short set of program “tenets,” each with an icon and a one-line description.
  • A column of season goals (“up to in 25–26”) rendered as bold, numeric callouts so the asks read instantly.

Page two — “Man, y’all are everywhere!”

The second page answers a single question — where does this team show up? — with a map-pin motif that organizes outreach into four zones: at FIRST events, around the district, at the local Imagination Station, and in schools. Photos are paired with each pin so the activity reads as real, not aspirational.

Visual system

A consistent system ties the two pages together: a red / black / white palette drawn from the team’s identity, a heavy display face for headline numbers paired with a clean sans for body copy, and repeated icon + short-label pairings so every module is parsed the same way. Generous spacing and clear grouping keep a dense set of facts from feeling crowded.
